trying to get out of a rut

i feel like every time i'm in a rut or depressed or just out of it, i try to watch a bunch of motivational videos like "10 Ways to Be Productive" or "Glow Up Your Life." i feel motivated for maybe 10 minutes then i'm back in bed doom scrolling for the rest of the day.

however!!! i am nothing if not curious so i tried everything that people say will help me improve my life, but as a non-influencer with no partnerships to lose. so on behalf of all the normal people — here is everything i've been doing to feel less sh**** (shitty).

(i'm qualified because i have a tiktok folder called "bettering myself")

Daily Walks

i've started waking up at the asscrack of dawn (should that be hyphenated?) to go on walks before the general population is up so they can't perceive me. sometimes i'll walk an hour or sometimes 30 minutes, but i can honestly say it makes me feel so much more productive.

yes, sometimes i go home and immediately fall asleep, but when i wake up i don't feel like i've wasted my morning just because i took a nap. maybe it's placebo, but i also feel more energized throughout the day. some of a point taken off because of the insane heat.

Podcasts

my podcasts go with my morning walks, but i am not a podcast person at all. i struggle trying to find a good balance between funny and informational, and i also don't know what my vibe is until i hear it so i go through a LOT of different podcasters every morning.

one of my consistent listens is The Psychology of Your 20s. she does a great job of diving into the technical aspects without droning on, and it makes me feel motivated and like i'm improving myself. another one i've liked is Girls on the Go when i just need some fun girl talk. overall, maybe i haven't found my niche yet.

Change of Environment

as much as i love not leaving my room, getting work done at a coffee shop or even just window shopping makes me feel so much better. sometimes i forget there's an actual world and people outside my four walls and life to live.

but sometimes i'm lazy. on lazy days (most of them), i make myself at least stand outside for 5 minutes or i motivate myself with coffee to leave the house. can you tell i like coffee? honestly food or a fun drink as motivation does wonders. even running errands or grocery shopping makes me feel like a person again.

Self Care

i know this is a bit generic but personally if i'm already feeling upset, i feel so much crustier when i'm not taking care of myself — when my room is messy, my mustache is growing out, whatever it is.

sometimes it's so incredibly hard to even think about doing things for myself, but when i started forcing myself to take care of myself, i know i'm not completely lost to whatever i'm feeling. even really small things like lighting a candle when i shower or putting a face mask on before bed helps me immensely.

i also highly recommend not talking to anyone after 10 pm and having personal bed rot time.

when all else fails, take a nice hot shower, wear your favorite top, and hang out with your girls. guaranteed to make you feel better and there's nothing a little gossip can't fix.

if anyone (meaning my best friend who is my most loyal reader) has any podcast suggestions, pleaseee let me know! i love everyone that's reading this, and remember we're all still learning how to live life ♡
